A Message from the Owner, Jay Mehta

I come from a close knit family. I am the youngest of four kids. I was raised in an environment of compassion, kindness, accountability, and integrity. These principles embody who I am today and how I treat others. These principles are also what guide me in my day-to-day life and are the foundation to any decisions I make in life—whether a personal decision or a decision that impacts others around me. In 2019, these principles hit home as I was faced with a life changing situation at home.

My father’s health began to fail. He was no longer able to drive and needed assistance with basic activities of daily living. The situation was quite tense at home and got worse. My dad entered hospice right at the onset of the Covid pandemic. We had no one to turn to, hospitals turned away patients like my dad, and we were limited to remote care. We were frustrated. My siblings and I all held full-time jobs while trying to take care of our own families, but we realized our dad needed help. My mom was at a stage in life where she couldn’t do a lot of things she was used to, was working through her own health issues and caring for my dad weighed on her emotionally and physically.

My siblings and I came to understand that home care services could help us with our dad’s care, allowing us to juggle the demands of everyday life. We interviewed several home care companies only to realize the principles we were raised with and which we expected in the companies and caregivers we interacted with were simply missing. We were unable to find a home care company that possessed the compassion, kindness, accountability, and integrity we were looking for.

The struggle in finding a home care company in the San Francisco Bay Area that met our requirements motivated me to start Assisting Hands Home Care. Our company is built on the very same principles I was raised with. My goal is simple: to provide the type of high-quality home care that I would want for my own dad, mom, and eventually even myself.
